Pair of beaded glass parfait glasses

Frankly, I don’t know if these wonderful old pieces are parfait glasses or not, but at only 4" tall, they’re rather short and wide-mouthed to be used as vases. They look almost like small hurricane candle lamps, but since their interior bottoms are somewhat concave, it would be difficult to position flat-bottom candles in them. So I’m stumped. What are they??? Whatever their intended use, they are certainly lovely with their quilted bead exteriors and flared 12-point flower petal rims decorated with chevron shaped cuts. Mouths are 4-3/4" in diameter and pedestal bases are 2-1/2" in diameter. Amazingly enough, both are in perfect condition. All rim points are intact and neither piece has any nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. If you can’t figure out a practical use for them, simply display them with pride! Vintage tall lidded candy jar

This beautiful old clear glass jar has such a lovely curvaceous shape and undoubtedly was originally a drug store apothecary or display jar. It stands 7-3/4" tall and rises to 9-1/4" when lidded. Both the round base and mouth opening are just a shade over 3" in diameter. The neck features a band of 3/8" x 7/8" rectangular indentations, below which the jar body curves out to become four-sided before curving back in again to another band of rectangular indentations above the base. The bottom surface features a double ring of raised dots and carries the numbers 2, 3, and 8. The two mold lines run all the way from top to bottom. The bottom rim of the lid has an upside down raised number 42, and its flat top has an incised design that looks like a flower or snowflake. Perfect condition with no chips, cracks, or scratches. Duchin Creation cake plate with sterling base

This lovely vintage pedestal cake plate is quite heavy and stands 4-1/4" tall with diameters of 10-3/4" at its glass top and 3-1/2" at its sterling silver base. The plate has a smooth top, beaded Candlewick-style edge, and a raised “burst” design on its underside consisting of straight lines and diamonds. The silver base with decorative bands around its bottom edge looks like a candlestick, and not without reason. It screws off so as not to be harmed when washing the glass cake plate, but once off, you can actually use it as a 3" tall candlestick that takes a 3/4" diameter taper! Its bottom is stamped “sterling weighted” and carries a hallmark in the shape of a hand and the words “Duchin Creation”. Glass is in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. Other than the tarnish, the silver base is also in perfect condition with no dings or dents. A very attractive and quite versatile cake plate / candlestick! Be sure to see our companion compote listed immediately below. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Duchin Creation candy dish with sterling base

This beautiful little Duchin Creation compote is a companion piece to our cake plate listed immediately above. The flared glass dish has the same lines and diamonds design, as well as the Candlewick-style beaded edge, this time on a 5-3/4" diameter ruffled octagonal rim. Piece stands 4-1/4" high. Its silver base also screws off and can be used as a 2-1/4" tall candlestick that takes a 3/4" taper. Bottom is 2-1/2" in diameter, stamped “sterling weighted,” and carries a hallmark in the shape of a hand and the words “Duchin Creation”. Glass is in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. Other than very slight tarnish, the silver base is also in perfect condition with no dings or dents. Paired with the cake plate, these two pieces make a striking display. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

La Solana turquoise lidded skillet

This large heavy turquoise pottery skillet (also called a lidded casserole) is unmarked, but has the lines, style, artistry, beauty, color, and soft semi-matte glaze of the La Solana pieces produced in Scottsdale, AZ during the 1950's-1960's. Apparently many, if not most, La Solana pieces are unmarked, and originally carried paper stickers. This is an impressively sized piece, being 9" in diameter at its top, nearly 13" across at its hollow handle, 7" in diameter at its unglazed base ring, and 3" tall, rising to 5-1/2" tall with lid. The underside of the lid has an unglazed 7-3/4" diameter ring that fits into the skillet. Both the skillet and its lid are in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or any signs of use whatsoever. I’ve never seen such a soft marshmallow-looking finish that just begs to be touched! Both unglazed rings show some age discoloration. There are a couple of glaze slips at the skillet rim, a flyspeck on the inner handle rim, and a couple more on the lid, plus one tiny scratch. According to an old “Solana-ware” ad, these pieces can be used in the oven, but they’re so beautiful I’d personally use them only for serving! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

La Solana tan/mauve cookie jar / bean pot

This beautifully understated cookie jar / bean pot is one of the lovely La Solana pottery pieces produced in Scottsdale, AZ during the 1950's-1960's. In my opinion, it’s the premier example of La Solana’s characteristic style, artistry and charm. In full light, the soft semi-matte glaze finish is a warm tan color; in muted light it has a definite mauve cast to it. Slightly beehive in shape, the pot measures 7-1/4" in diameter at its bottom, slopes upward to its 5-3/4" diameter top, and is 7-1/2" across at its diagonal knob handles. It is 5-1/2" tall, rising to 7" tall to the top of its lid knob when lidded. The underside of the lid has an unglazed 4-3/4" diameter ring that fits into the pot, whose bottom features a 6-3/8" unglazed base ring. The La Solana incising on the bottom became so full of glaze when fired that it’s virtually unreadable. Perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or crazing. One tiny flyspeck on the lid and slight roughness around the edge of the lid’s 1"-diameter knob. The pot’s unglazed bottom ring shows age discoloration. (Click on picture for more images.) Noritake vegetable bowl

This is a vintage 10-1/2" x 7-3/4" x 2-1/2" deep Noritake vegetable bowl whose pattern name I have been unable to discover. The design, which starts near the edge of the lip and continues down into the bowl, consists of a wide band of alternating flower sprays, one predominantly white, the second predominantly pink, both with additional small yellow flowers and green and brown foliage. Gold gilding surrounds the edge, with heavier gilding on the “handles” and a thin strip of gilding around the exterior base. The bottom stamp is the green and gold “M” in a laurel wreath (the "Morimura” symbol), with “Noritake China” above and “Made in Japan” below, both sets of lettering in black. This mark was first used in 1933, so this piece would date between 1933-1945, when “Made in Japan” gave way to “Made in Occupied Japan”. For a bowl that’s over 60 years old, this one is in amazingly perfect condition, and I doubt it was ever used. There are no chips, cracks, crazing, or discoloration. Even the gilding remains strong and intact! The bottom of the 6" x 4-1/4" bottom base oval shows minor scuffing. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Block lead crystal tulip vase

This is an exquisite 8" tall 24% lead crystal vase with 6 raised and frosted tulips whose flowers form the vase’s mouth and whose stems and leaves are raised and/or deeply mitered all the way to the vase’s bottom. Glass is a full 1/4" thick. 4-3/4" in diameter at its “scalloped” top produced by the tulip tops, 3-3/4" in diameter at its widest point, and 2-1/2" in diameter at its base. Very heavy for its size, and all that mitering causes the vase to flash rainbow prism colors in the light. Carries its original paper sticker that says “Block Hand Crafted 24% Full Lead Crystal”. Absolutely perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. In fact, it’s still in its original box which adds the information that it’s the “Tulip 8" vase T2221" and “Made in Poland”. Sure to become a treasured heirloom. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Celebrations lead crystal Sweet Heart bowl

This is a beautiful 4" tall 24% lead crystal “Sweet Heart” bowl that features eight scalloped panels, each containing a raised and mitered heart. Encircling the lower portion of the bowl are eight mitered geometric designs, one below each panel. The bottom contains a 16-point mitered star. Glass is a full 1/4" thick and sparkles in the light. 5-1/2" in diameter at its scalloped top and 3" in diameter at its base. Carries two original paper stickers. The one on the side is a double circle, the center of which depicts a piece of stemware with the words “Crystal Clear” underneath. The outer circle says “Made in U.S.A.” and “24% Lead Crystal”. The sticker on the bottom indicates that this bowl might have been intended as a candle bowl because it contains a warning (in both English and French) that says “Never leave a burning candle unattended. Do not burn candle to bottom. Trim wick before each use.” I seriously doubt that anyone has ever used this bowl at all, let alone for holding a burning candle! It’s in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. It’s still in its original box which calls it a Celebrations “Sweet Heart” bowl distributed by Crystal Clear Industries in New York. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Glo-Hill chrome tray with golden browm bakelite handles

Here is a truly lovely Art Deco chrome tray with two-tone brown bakelite feet and handles. The shiny mirror-finish tray measures 10-1/4" x 5-5/8" and features a large shallow center well, but it’s the gorgeous bakelite end pieces that make this tray a work of art. No way can photos do justice to the deep golden brown color. Two joined geometric carvings on each handle reveal the lighter mottled golden hue of the bakelite’s interior. Original paper sticker on the tray’s bottom says this beauty is one of the Gourmates line styled by Glo-Hill of Canada. In 1946, Sol, Paul, and Leo Globus, together with their brother in-law Harry Hill, created the Glo-Hill Corporation in Montreal. The business originally manufactured beautiful carving sets and cutlery, but as it grew, Glo-Hill began diversifying their product line and offering chrome hollowware pieces used in home entertaining. They imported materials from factories located along the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S., such as bakelite and many glass components that were being manufactured by expert glass manufactures like McKee, Glasbake and Jeannette Glass. Paul Globus was considered the stylist for Glo-Hill and it was his ideas that became the exquisite designs and Art Deco styling for which Glo-Hill became famous. Their products were sold throughout Canada in high-end department stores. The company ceased doing business in the 1970s, and their pieces are eagerly sought after by collectors today. Our tray stands 1-3/4" tall with an overall length of 11". Original sticker on the underside that says “Gourmates styled by Glo-Hill Canada.” Excellent vintage condition, with no dings or dents to the chrome and only very light usage scratching. The bakelite is pristine. Be sure to see our other beautiful Glo-Hill trays -- you may wish to buy several for the lucky bride and groom! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
