Elgin sterling salt & pepper shakers
This is a pair of vintage 4-1/4" tall sterling silver salt & pepper shakers with diameters of 5/8" at the mouth and 1-3/8" at the widest point and pedestal base. Bodies are composed of 10 concave panels. Unlined and with 1" tall Kaiser Wilhelm screw-on caps. Flat bottoms say “sterling”, “cement filled base”, and are marked with a diamond containing “EL SIL CO”, the mark of Elgin Silversmith Co., Inc. of New York. Other than the tarnish, these shakers are in remarkably good condition for their age. Both have some minor dings to add character, and the collar of one swivels freely but does not come off. DCA sterling salt & pepper shakers
This is a pair of vintage 3-1/4" tall sterling silver salt & pepper shakers with diameters of 1-3/8" at both their widest point and their pedestal bases. They are unusual in that it’s their bases that screw off for filling, not their thimble-shaped tops. That may be irrelevant at this point, though, because virtually all of the shaker holes are corroded shut. I haven’t tried pushing a needle or pin through the holes, so I don’t know if these shakers are actually usable. They make beautiful display pieces, however, with bodies composed of eight gracefully flared convex panels that produce a scalloped collar at the top. Bottoms say “sterling” and carry the letters DCA as well as the number 925. I have been unable to discover whose mark this is, so if you know, please email me! Other than the tarnish and the corroded shaker holes, they’re in virtually perfect condition, with only a couple of pinprick dings. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Glass octagonal column salt & pepper shakers
This is a pair of slender vintage glass salt & pepper shakers that stand 2-5/8" tall and are a shade over 3/4" in diameter. They look like octagonal columns with screw-on metal tops, one of which is gold colored and the other more of a brass color, with definite signs of age discoloration. They’ve never been used and both still contain their original plastic cap liner. Other than the cap discoloration, both are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches, and no dings to the caps. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Set of 6 individual sterling salt & pepper shakers
This is a set of six individual sterling silver shakers that measure 1-3/4" high x 1" in diameter at their bases. Bottoms are marked “sterling” and carry the numbers 660 and 2774. Designed to fill from the bottom, today these pretty little shakers would need to be used for display purposes only since their bottoms aren’t budging. All 6 are dent free, but have at least a couple of pinprick discolorations that might polish out entirely if you’re so inclined. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Set of 4 individual sterling salt & pepper shakers
This is a set of four individual sterling silver shakers that measure 1-1/2" high with diameters of 3/4" at the mouth, 1" at the widest point, and 3/4" at the base. Unlined and with screw-on caps. Bottoms are marked “sterling” and “V.L.”, which may stand for Vernay & Lincoln of Attlebury, MA. Since these vintage shakers are so old, and since silver is such a soft metal, all four have some small dents. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Etched glass and sterling salt & pepper shakers
This is a pair of truly exquisite vintage glass salt & pepper shakers with sterling caps and weighted sterling pedestal bases. They stand 4-1/2" high when lidded and the bases are a shade under 1-3/4" in diameter. The lovely glass bodies are also 1-3/4" in diameter at their widest point and feature extensive delicate etching in floral and lacy scroll patterns. The bottom of the glass portion is raised, producing a carved appearance of four flower petals with long swooping tapered sides that extend 2/3 of the way up the bodies The tall “Kaiser Wilhelm” caps screw on and are marked “sterling”. The bases carry three hallmarks and the words “sterling weighted”. Both bases can be slightly wiggled, but are not really loose. All glass is in perfect condition with no chips, nicks, cracks, or scratching. The pepper shaker’s finial top is ever so slightly tilted. Other than the tarnish, both bases are in excellent condition. The base of the salt shaker has one ding at its bottom edge and an even smaller one on its underside. Glass and silver plate coffee pot salt & pepper shakers
This is a pair of vintage salt & pepper shakers in the shape of coffee pots that are amazingly heavy for their diminutive size. The screw-off tops are of heavy metal, presumably silver plated, and the bottoms are thick glass with a pattern of two sculpted curves alternating with one zipper cut curve, and beading around the bottom edge. They stand 3" tall and measure 2-1/2" from spout to handle. The glass bodies are a shade over 1-1/2" in diameter at both their widest point and their base. Bottoms are unmarked. I have seen identical shakers listed as Guardian Service hostess sets from the 1930's. Evidently Guardian Service produced cookware that they sold at house parties, and the hostess would receive a gift, of which these salt & pepper sets were a favorite. One of these shakers is in near perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches to its glass and only a couple of tiny dings to its handle. The other shaker isn’t so lucky. The top has considerable tarnish and a ding at its bottom, and the glass portion has a gouge at its base. The perfect sets sell for $50.00, so our price reflects the damage to this one. Pressed glass salt & pepper shakers with zinc caps
This is a pair of vintage pressed glass salt & pepper shakers that stand 2-1/2" tall with diameters of 3/4" at the mouth and 2" at the base. Thick clear glass decorated with three stars with elongated rays evenly positioned around the circumference. The stars can be felt, as can the two mold lines, but are difficult to see in the photos because these shakers are still filled with salt and pepper from decades ago. We’ve left them that way, mainly because the lids are zinc and while the pepper lid screws off freely, the salt lid is corroded and absolutely won’t budge! Bottoms are unmarked except for a deeply incised circle. Other than the corrosion on the salt lid, both pieces are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. There are a few tiny bubbles in the glass and I can feel several raised pinpricks at the bottom of each piece which I assume to be manufacturer’s flaws. (Click on picture for more images.)
