1975 Preakness glass

This is a rare Preakness glass from 1975, the Centennial Year for the Preakness. It is the exact same size as Kentucky Derby mint julep glasses, being 5-1/4" tall x 2-3/4" in diameter. Glass is almost completely frosted. Front features a highly detailed line drawing of the Preakness Trophy, above which is “Pimlico” and below which is “100th Preakness 1975,” all flanked by yellow black-eyed susans. (The first Preakness was in 1873, but no races were run in 1891, 1982, or 1893.) Back lists all the Preakness winners from 1873-1974, with “Pimlico 100” above and “Official” below. Glass is in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

1976 Preakness glass

This is a 1976 Preakness glass that is the exact same size as Kentucky Derby mint julep glasses, being 5-1/4" tall x 2-3/4" in diameter. In honor of America’s bicentennial, the glass colors are red, white, and blue. Front says “Preakness of 76, Pimlico” with a racehorse and rider bursting forth between the 7 and the 6, which contains a star. Around this graphic are 13 additional stars representing the original 13 colonies, of which Maryland was one. Sides and back list all Preakness winners from 1873-1975, above which is a banner saying “1870-1976.” The 1870 refers to the year Pimlico race track opened, not the year when the first Preakness Stakes was run, which was 1873. As an interesting aside, the Preakness Stakes was named in honor of Preakness, the horse that won the Dinner Party Stakes in 1870 on the occasion of Pimlico's opening. We have two of these bicentennial Preakness glasses and price is for each. Both are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. (Click on picture for more images.) 1977 Preakness glass

This is a 1977 Preakness glass that is the exact same size as Kentucky Derby mint julep glasses, being 5-1/4" tall x 2-3/4" in diameter. Especially collectible because 1977 was the year Seattle Slew won not only the Preakness, but also the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes, becoming only the 10th horse in history to win the Triple Crown. Front depicts a gray horse blissfully munching away on one of the black-eyed susans from his winner’s garland, above which is “Preakness,” and below which is “Pimlico 1977.” Sides and back list all Preakness winners from 1873-1978, above which are three black-eyed susans and “1870-1977.” 1870 was when Pimlico opened, NOT when the first Preakness was run in 1873. Glass is in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

1978 Preakness glass

This is a 1978 Preakness glass that is the exact same size as Kentucky Derby mint julep glasses, being 5-1/4" tall x 2-3/4" in diameter. It is especially collectable because 1978 was the year of probably the greatest rivalry ever in horse racing: Affirmed vs. Alydar. You still see the film today on TV and hear the announcer’s excited voice: “And down the stretch they come....” Affirmed won not only the Derby, but went on to become only the 11th horse in history to win the Triple Crown, and we haven’t had a Triple Crown winner since! The front of this glass depicts a race horse and jockey behind two large black-eyed susans, above which is “Pimlico.” Sides and back say “Preakness 1978” and list all Preakness winners from 1873-1977. Glass is in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches.
