Retro Melmac oblong serving bowl

Whoa! This piece sure brings back early childhood memories! My mom was wild for Melmac – weren’t all housewives in the '50's? – and would have gone nuts over this celery green oblong serving bowl. It stands 1-3/4" tall at the middle of its concave sides, curving to 2-1/2" high at its rolled handles, and measures 14-1/4" long x nearly 6" across. Oval base measures 3-1/2" x 6-1/2". Marked C09 in the bottom center circle. If you ever had any of this stuff, you know it’s virtually indestructible, which is why this bowl is still in practically pristine condition despite its age. In just the right light you can see some minor usage scuffing on the interior surfaces, but hey, this grande dame is over 50 years old. We should all be so lucky as to hold up this well against the onslaughts of Father Time! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Promise “Get Heart Smart” nesting measuring cups

This is a set of four nesting red plastic heart-shaped measuring cups that were part of the Promise margarine “Get Heart Smart” campaign that began in the mid-1980's. Promise’s print advertisements and television commercials used “Get Heart Smart” as its slogan and showed heart-shaped pats of the margarine on foods. But by 1996, the Food and Drug Administration was clamping down on health claims and Promise was more or less forced to give up its “Get Heart Smart” slogan and advertising. No more measuring cups, either! These cups measure 1/4 cup/60 ml, 1/3 cup/80 ml, 1/2 cup/125 ml, and 1 cup/250 ml and are marked as such on the tops of their respective handles. The bottom of the largest cup is marked “Promise” and “Get Heart Smart” in large white letters. Perfect condition with no damage whatsoever. These measuring cups are bound to become ever more scarce as time passes, so “Get Head Smart” and buy a set while you still can! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Kitchen Garden sprouter

Ever consider growing delicious nutritious sprouts right in your kitchen? Here’s just the thing to get you started, and you don’t even need a green thumb! This is one of the original easy-to-use 10" diameter x 3" tall lidded Kitchen Garden sprouters from the 1970s that takes up very little room on your countertop and grows sprouts in 5-7 days without soil or sun. The bottom has small holes like a strainer for proper drainage and is inset 3/8" for good air circulation. (Fits great in one of our 10-1/2" diameter lazy susans listed above to contain the drainage moisture.) Lid is marked “Kitchen Garden” and “World’s Finest Sprouter.” Very lightly used condition and ready to turn your kitchen into a mini garden!. Sprouts are scrumptious in salads, soups, sandwiches, omelets, etc. And if you don’t know how to sprout seeds (or even which seeds to sprout), just do a Google search to find a variety of sites that give complete directions and helpful information. Happy sprouting! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Vintage rolling pin

Back in the 60's when I first used one of these neat 15-3/4" long white plastic rolling pins that you fill with cold water (or even crushed ice) to keep it from sticking to pastry or cookie dough, it was such a handy kitchen tool that I assumed folks would be using them forever and new ones would be always be available. Evidently I was wrong! Have you tried to find one lately? Glad you stopped by the Trading Post, because your search has ended in success! This vintage rolling pin  has an 8-1/2" long rolling surface that’s approximately 2-3/4" in diameter. Both of the comfortable handles feature two raised bands around their perimeters for easy gripping. One handle is curved at the end and the other has a 1-7/8" diameter white plastic screw-off cap. Perfect condition, and if I still made pie crusts from scratch, you can darn well bet I’d be using this rolling pin myself instead of letting it go home with you! (Click on picture for more images.) Set of 8 coasters with caddy

Here is a set of 8 faux tortoiseshell coasters complete with their original brass wire caddy. Coasters stand a scant 3/8" high and are 3-1/2" square with slightly convex sides. Their indented 3" diameter centers have cork inserts. Bottoms are marked “Made in U.S.A.” Attractive brass caddy is 1-5/8" tall x 3-3/4" wide x 6-1/4" deep. Two coils at either end brace the coasters and keep them upright in the caddy. These coasters look like they’ve never been used, although there is some slight scratching on their sides from being taken in and out of the caddy for years. The caddy itself has developed a nice patina and has no dents or dings. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
