2003 Kentucky Derby error glass
This is a rare 2003 Kentucky Derby “error” mint julep glass. It looks exactly like the regular 2003 glass listed immediately above, BUT there’s a mistake on the winners’ list. The triple crown symbol is after Burgoo King’s name (1932) instead of War Admiral’s name (1937). Every once in awhile such mistakes are made, and collectors go nuts for these “error glasses.” Error glasses appreciate in value even faster than their perfect counterparts. For instance, a regular 2000 Kentucky Derby glass is worth $10 today, but a 2000 error glass (with a pink rose instead of a red rose) is already worth $85! This 2003 error glass stands 5-1/4" tall x 2-3/4" in diameter and is in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches. A great investment! (Click on picture for more images.) 2005 Kentucky Derby mint julep glass set
Here’s a unique set of 2005 Kentucky Derby mint julep glasses. Both are the official 2005 glass, but one was sold by Maker’s Mark and is dipped in their mint julep green wax. The fronts of the glasses depict the Churchill Downs steeples and a stylized horse and rider behind a large red rose and say “Kentucky Derby 131" and “Churchill Downs, May 7, 2005.” Backs list all the Kentucky Derby winners from 1875-2004, with Triple Crown winners marked with a crown and fillies marked with a diamond. Glasses stand 5-1/4" tall x 2-3/4" in diameter and both are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches.
By the way, Maker’s Mark is a brand of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey produced at the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, KY, which is a National Historic Landmark. Family owned and operated since 1840 (originally as the T.W. Samuels Distillery in Samuels Depot, KY), the first bottle of Maker’s Mark was produced in 1957. Marge Samuels (wife of Bill, Sr.) designed the bottle and named the whisky, and all of us “antiqueoholics” will love this story! Mrs. Samuels collected fine pewter and always searched for “the mark of the maker.” She also collected cognac bottles, many of which were sealed in colorful wax. So she named her husband’s bourbon “Maker’s Mark” and the bottles are sealed with red wax to this day! Maker’s Mark dips their Kentucky Derby glasses in either their signature red wax or their mint julep green wax. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

2006 Kentucky Derby mint julep glass
This is a 2006 Kentucky Derby mint julep glass. As you probably remember, 2006 was the year that the undefeated and gallant Barbaro won by an impressive 6-1/2 lengths, only to suffer a tragic injury at the Preakness two weeks later which ultimately took his life. The front of this glass depicts a deep green silhouette of a race horse and jockey on a frosted background, with “Kentucky Derby 132” superimposed in white, with a red rose. The Churchill Downs twin spires are above in deep green outlined in lighter green, and “Churchill Downs, May 6, 2006” is below. A banner around the upper portion of the glass reads “One Hundred Thirty Second Running.” All the Kentucky Derby winners from 1875-2005 are listed, with Triple Crown winners marked with a crown and fillies marked with a diamond. Glass stands 5-1/4" tall x 2-3/4" in diameter. We have eleven of these glasses and price is for each. All are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches.
