1958 Kentucky Derby Gold Bar mint julep glass
This is a 1958 Kentucky Derby Gold Bar mint julep glass, so named because there were actually two glasses produced in 1958. This Gold Bar glass has two frosted panels, each depicting a black line drawing of two race horses ridden by gold jockeys, to the right of which is a “gold bar” with a gold-on-gold Churchill Downs spire and head-on horse and rider. Underneath the drawings, the front panel lists Kentucky Derby winners from 1875-1916 and the back panel lists winners from 1917-1957. Between the panels, the left side says “Churchill Downs” in gold lettering and the right side says “Kentucky Derby,” also in gold letters. (The second 1958 mint julep glass, named the Iron Liege glass, was actually produced from overstocked 1957 glasses, which were restamped to add the name of the 1957 winner Iron Liege.) This Gold Bar glass stands 5-1/4" tall x 2-3/4" in diameter. Perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, or gold loss. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

1958 Kentucky Derby Gold Bar error glass
This is an exceedingly rare 1958 Kentucky Derby Gold Bar “error” mint julep glass. It looks exactly like the 1958 Gold Bar glass listed immediately above, BUT there’s a mistake. The gold-lettered “Churchill Downs” and “Kentucky Derby” between the two frosted panels are missing! Every once in awhile such mistakes are made, and collectors go nuts for these “error glasses.” Error glasses appreciate in value even faster than their perfect counterparts. For instance, a regular 2000 Kentucky Derby glass is worth $10 today, but a 2000 error glass (with a pink rose instead of a red rose) is already worth $85! This Gold Bar “error” glass stands 5-1/4" tall x 2-3/4" in diameter. Perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, or gold loss. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
