1994 Kentucky Derby Festival glass
This is a mint julep glass from the 1994 Kentucky Derby Festival. By the way, Maker’s Mark is a brand of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey produced at the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, KY, which is a National Historic Landmark. Family owned and operated since 1840 (originally as the T.W. Samuels Distillery in Samuels Depot, KY), the first bottle of Maker’s Mark was produced in 1957. Marge Samuels (wife of Bill, Sr.) designed the bottle and named the whisky, and all of us “antiqueoholics” will love this story! Mrs. Samuels collected fine pewter and always searched for “the mark of the maker.” She also collected cognac bottles, many of which were sealed in colorful wax. So she named her husband’s bourbon “Maker’s Mark” and the bottles are sealed with red wax to this day! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
