Small round lidded jar

This cute little clear glass jar stands 4-1/2" tall when lidded, with diameters of 3" at its widest point, and 1-3/4" at its base and mouth. The bottom carries the raised numbers 2469 and P24, plus a maker’s mark that might be a stylized H or M, or might even be two figures facing each other. The jar is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, scratches, or discoloration. The lid’s bottom edge, which appears to be ground, has roughness and one tiny chip. Vintage tall lidded candy jar

This beautiful old clear glass jar has such a lovely curvaceous shape and undoubtedly is another example of a drug store apothecary or display jar. It stands 7-3/4" tall and rises to 9-1/4" when lidded. Both the round base and mouth opening are just a shade over 3" in diameter. The neck features a band of 3/8" x 7/8" rectangular indentations, below which the jar body curves out to become four-sided before curving back in again to another band of rectangular indentations above the base. The bottom surface features a double ring of raised dots and carries the numbers 2, 3, and 8. The two mold lines run all the way from top to bottom. The bottom rim of the lid has an upside down raised number 42, and its flat top has an incised design that looks like a flower or snowflake. Perfect condition with no chips, cracks, or scratches. Huge vintage lidded jar

This old clear glass jar is huge: 11" tall by itself and 12-3/4" tall when lidded. The thick glass bottom is 4-1/4" inches in diameter and the mouth opening is 3-1/4" in diameter. The bottom of the lid has a still sharp pontil cut, and the “roughness” around it is actually exceptionally faint inscribing that looks for all the world like two birds facing each other in tall grass. Takes a high-powered magnifying glass and just the right light to see this, but I don’t think I’m hallucinating! The outside rim of the lid is ground where it fits into the jar, and the constant in-and-out over the decades has left the inside of the jar neck with a frosted appearance. There is also a rather large shallow chip on the rim of the jar mouth. No other chips, cracks, nicks, or scratches. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Huge lidded terrarium

Surely this huge lidded clear glass brandy snifter must have been a terrarium back in the early 1970's. It stands 11" high by itself, rising to a whopping 15-3/4" when lidded, with diameters of 6-1/2" at its mouth, approximately 9" at its widest point, and 5" at the foot of its unmarked pedestal base. Perfect condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks, but some interior scratching from its former contents. A very substantial display piece that would look great no matter what you fill it with, but I wish it could be a terrarium once again. Don’t you miss those wonderful living additions to our homes 30 years ago? I certainly do! (Click on picture for more images.)

Large brandy snifter

This is the “little brother” of the brandy snifter listed immediately above, but this one doesn’t have a lid. Made of clear glass, it stands 9-3/4" high with diameters of 5-1/4"  at its mouth, approximately 7-1/2" at its widest point, and 5" at the foot of its unmarked pedestal base. Perfect condition with no chips, cracks, or scratches. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Anchor Hocking tilt top candy jar

Many years ago, this big ol’ tilt mouth jar undoubtedly started its life in a General Store or drug store as one of a row of matching containers holding colorful penny candy. Its black tin lid was hinged at the top so the proprietor could flip it up to scoop out the candy, but I’ll bet you anything that countless gleeful little kids did waaay more lid flipping than that kindly proprietor! The jar stands 9-1/2" tall x 6" wide, but its faceted sides flare out to become 7-3/4" wide and the bowed center of the 8" long sloping front is 6-3/4" wide. The large opening in that sloping front has an inside diameter of 5" and an outside lip diameter of 6" over which the black tin lid rests. It still has its metal hinge at the top, but all that lid flipping decades ago must have been too much for the metal collar that surely originally encircled the jar’s short neck and to which the hinge attached. It’s long since gone, and the lid itself has several little dents and scratches where the base metal shows through. The back side of the jar is curved, as is the lower portion of the front side, both leading to the 5-1/8" x 6-3/4" bottom in which the slightly concave base contains the impressed Anchor Hocking logo of an anchor and H. Glass is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks, and only minor interior scratching. Whether you fill it with candy, cookies, colorful pasta, or even your prized matchbook collection (which is what it contained when we found it), this neat old jar is ready to continue leading a useful and decorative life for many more decades to come. Ann’s House of Nuts jar

This heavy 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" triangular clear glass jar stands 9-5/8" tall and has a round 2-1/8" diameter mouth.
