Large Hopi ceremonial rattle

This is a large Hopi ceremonial rattle made from a gourd by a member of the Hopi tribe who beautifully hand painted it with tribal symbols. These rattles are used in Hopi ceremonial dances as part of tribal and/or religious celebrations. On one side is a yellow flower as an earth symbol above the familiar face of the Hopi sun spirit symbol, embellished with white feathers, and turquoise, red, yellow, and white geometrics. On the other side is the typical Hopi and Native American symbol for the corn plant with a red and white ear of corn with white stem and leaves. An orange and black wooden feather is attached to the top of the rattle, whose handle is pierced toward its bottom to allow for a white string wrist strap. Rattle is 12-1/2" long (16-1/2" long to the tip of its wooden feather) x 4" wide. Perfect condition. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Smaller Hopi ceremonial rattle

This is a smaller Hopi ceremonial rattle made from a gourd by a member of the Hopi tribe who beautifully hand painted it with tribal symbols, an eagle head on one side, and a bear claw on the other. Several upright white feathers are attached to the top of the rattle, as well as an additional white feather that hangs down on a string. The rattle’s handle is pierced toward its bottom to allow for a white string wrist strap. Rattle is 7" long (10-1/4" long to the tip of its feathers) x 2.5" wide. Perfect condition.
