12-piece white bands bar set

This elegant bar set is composed of six gold-rimmed cocktail glasses and a large cocktail shaker with a brass lid featuring a pour spout with removable cap and an attached ring holding a long brass stirrer spoon, all in a brass carrier with wooden handle. Design features horizontal white bands and numerous gold and/or gold and white leaves. Matching smaller carrier holds two gold-rimmed ashtrays with a single horizontal white band and numerous smaller gold and/or gold and white leaves. Heavy glass shaker stands 8" tall, rising to 9-1/2" tall at the lid spout, with diameters of 3-3/4" at the rim and 2-7/8" at the thick weighted base. Pear-shaped brass stirrer spoon is 2" long x 1-1/4" across at its widest point and its handle is 7-3/4" long. Cocktail glasses stand 2-5/8" tall with diameters of 2-3/4" at their gold rims and 1-3/8" at their thick glass bases with concave bottoms. Large carrier stands a shade over 13" tall and measures 11-3/4" across at the outermost holder rings. Ashtray carrier stands 7-1/2" tall x 4" across at its widest point and holds two 3-1/2" diameter gold-rimmed ashtrays, the bottom one of which has lost a good portion of its rim gilding. My assumption is that the set originally came with six ashtrays. Other than the one ashtray’s gilding loss, this set is in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or gold loss. Brass shaker lid and stirrer spoon are still bright and shiny and the set appears never to have been used. The brass on the large carrier is likewise still bright and shiny, whereas the smaller carrier’s brass has developed a lovely patina. One might guess that this set’s original owner was a smoker but not a drinker! This outstanding bar set is one of the loveliest we’ve ever seen and we know it will make a prized addition to your bar. Large turquoise salad bowl

This large gold-rimmed salad bowl was produced by the West Virginia Glass Specialty Company located in Weston, WV from 1928-1987. The pattern name is Blendo, apparently introduced in the 1950s, and comes in a variety of frosted graduated colors, this one being turquoise. Bowl stands 6" tall with diameters of 10-3/4" at its gold rim and 4-3/4" at its clear base. Great vintage condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks, with a few tiny spots of gold loss at the rim. Requires hand washing to preserve the gilding and frosted finish.(Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Hansetta-Artware hand-painted juice set

This frosted juice set consisting of a pitcher and five small juice glasses was hand-painted by Hansetta-Artware. Phil Hopper shows a beverage set with this design with its original Hansetta-Artware foil label on page 62 of  Decorated Glassware, Vol. III. He calls the design “Red Flower,” but admits that’s not its official name, which he doesn’t know. Our pitcher features two delicate pink and white blossoms with yellow centers ringed in black dots, plus three flower buds on long delicate black stems with green leaves. Each juice glass has one flower and one bud, again with black stems and green leaves. Very little is known about this New York decorating company or its years of operation. Hopper has found only two Hansetta-Artware ads, both from 1954. Our juice set was hand-painted using a cold-color painting technique. Not only can you feel the paint and see the brush strokes, but one of the juice glasses has “lost” a considerable portion of its flower, a sure sign of a cold-color painting process. Pitcher stands 7-1/8" tall at the rim, rising to 8" at its ice lips. Diameters are 3" at the rim, approximately 3-3/4" at the widest point, and 2-3/4" at the base. Glasses stand 3" tall with diameters of 2-1/2" at their flared rims and 1-3/4" at their pedestal bases. Set is in great vintage condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or scratches, but some color loss as noted above. Set requires hand washing to preserve the paint and frosted finish. Set of 8 Blackman’s Fruitee zombie glasses

This is a set of 8 frosted zombie glasses advertising Blackman’s Fruitee, apparently “America’s Finest” soft drink with “Real Fruit Flavor.” So I ask you, is this for real? Is there – or was there ever – a soft drink called Blackman’s Fruitee?

Mystery solved! A great guy by the name of Bob emailed with info and pictures, after which I discovered some additional information and pictures myself. Click here. Thank you, Bob, for finally solving this mystery!

These glasses are certainly attractive, if not a bit kitchy. They’re completely frosted except for their clear bottoms, and all lettering is in red. They stand 6-3/4" tall with a rim diameter just shy of 2-1/2" and a base diameter of 2-1/8". Bottoms carry the F in a shield mark of Federal Glass. Perfect size for iced tea, lemonade, or one of those elusive Blackman’s Fruitees! Perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or color loss. Require hand washing to preserve the finish and paint. If you already have a few of these glasses and need to complete your set, see our single glasses listed immediately below. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Hazel Atlas eggnog set

Serve your Christmas egg nog in style with this great Hazel Atlas egg nog set composed of a festive milk glass bowl and six matching mugs! The bright red “Egg Nog” is flanked by two sprigs of holly and underneath is a wraparound series of old-fashioned Christmas graphics in green. Bowl stands 4-1/4" high with diameters of 9" at its rim and 3-3/4" at its base. Mugs stand 3" high and measure 3-1/2" across at the handles, with diameters of 2-3/4" at their rims and 1-5/8" at their indented circle bases. Bottoms of all seven pieces carry the Hazel Atlas mark and are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or loss of color. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Set of 4 Hazel Atlas Tom & Jerry cups

Continuing in the Christmas spirit, here’s a set of four Hazel Atlas Tom & Jerry milk glass mugs that coordinate well with our egg nog set listed immediately above. Here the green “Tom and Jerry” is flanked by two sprigs of holly and underneath is a Christmas candle flanked by two old-fashioned gentlemen in stovepipe hats, one making a toast and the other quaffing his mug of Christmas cheer. Mugs stand 3" high and measure 3-1/2" across at the handles, with diameters of 2-3/4" at their rims and 1-5/8" at their indented circle bases that carry the Hazel Atlas mark. By the way, “Tom and Jerry” has nothing to do with the cartoon characters of those names, but refers to a popular variation of egg nog first introduced by author Pierce Egan in his 1821 book Life in London, or The Day and Night Scenes of Jerry Hawthorn Esq. and his Elegant Friend Corinthian Tom, and further popularized by Egan’s stage play Tom and Jerry produced the same year. The drink adds brandy and rum to basic eggnog and is usually served hot. Our Tom & Jerry mugs are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or loss of color. Set of 4 Libbey Antique Autos juice glasses

This is a set of 4 Antique Autos juice glasses produced by the Libbey Co. Each clear glass depicts a different car with its name and year below. Set includes the 1900 Packard Roadster (blue, yellow, and black), the 1909 Nash Rambler (white and black), the 1911 Buick Bug (yellow, white, and black), and the 1913 Reo (green and black). Glasses stand 4-5/8" tall with diameters of 2-5/8" at their rims and 2" at their bases. The bottom of each glass carries the Libbey mark. Although Gay Fad decorated Libbey blanks, these are definitely not Gay Fad designs. The Gay Fad “Antique Autos” and/or “Old Cars” series never included either a Rambler or a Reo, and the designs always included the car company logo beneath the car. Additionally, the cars on these glasses appear to be decals, not hand-painted. All four glasses are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, or color loss. Require hand washing to keep them that way! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Pineapple pitcher

This frosted juice pitcher decorated with two hand-painted pineapples is very similar to Gay Fad’s Pineapple design, but this one isn’t by Gay Fad, even though it’s painted on the same style of pitcher and the frosting is satiny-smooth. Gay Fad’s pineapples don’t have brown cross-hatching or the brown spots in them, and the leaves at the top and sides are completely different. That doesn’t mean this pitcher isn’t attractive – it is – it just means that it wasn’t painted by Gay Fad, although it’s a nice example of the mid-50's hand-painted glassware that was all the rage at the time. It stands 5-3/4" tall and measures 4-3/4" x 4-1/4" at its widest point, tapering to a 3-1/2" x 2-3/4" base that has a large 5-pointed star in a circle. Perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or color loss. Requires hand washing to preserve the paint and finish. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Set of 4 Gay Nineties tumblers

Here we go again! This set of clear glass tumblers not only features full-color renditions of Gay Nineties modes of transportation, each glass specifically says “Gay Nineties” on the back in fancy script. So if they’re Gay Nineties, they’ve gotta be Gay Fad, right? No way! The biggest tip-off is in the script itself. None of the Gay Fad Gay Nineties pieces ever said “Gay Nineties” on them! Not that I’m denigrating these glasses in any way – I’m not. They’re quite attractive and certainly of good quality. One has a “Horse Car,” one a “Gas Buggy,” one a “Bicycle for Two,” and one “The Hansom.” They stand just a shade over 5" tall with diameters of 2-3/4" at their rims and 2-1/4" at their thick unmarked bases. All are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or color loss. They just weren’t hand-painted by Gay Fad. That, however, didn’t stop their eBay seller from listing them as Gay Fad tumblers! Actually, that’s exactly why we bought them: so we could offer our site visitors a lovely set of non-Gay Fad “Gay Nineties” tumblers, while at the same time pointing out that buyers really do need to beware of false advertising, even if not done intentionally. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

** FLASH ** We finally discovered that these tumblers were produced  by Anchor Hocking when we found a complete set of 8 in its original Anchor Hocking box! I do find it surprising that Anchor Hocking wouldn’t put their H and an anchor mark on the bottoms of their own glasses, but at any rate, we now know who produced these Gay Nineties tumblers.
