12-piece white bands bar set
This elegant bar set is composed of six gold-rimmed cocktail glasses and a large cocktail shaker with a brass lid featuring a pour spout with removable cap and an attached ring holding a long brass stirrer spoon, all in a brass carrier with wooden handle. Design features horizontal white bands and numerous gold and/or gold and white leaves. Matching smaller carrier holds two gold-rimmed ashtrays with a single horizontal white band and numerous smaller gold and/or gold and white leaves. Heavy glass shaker stands 8" tall, rising to 9-1/2" tall at the lid spout, with diameters of 3-3/4" at the rim and 2-7/8" at the thick weighted base. Pear-shaped brass stirrer spoon is 2" long x 1-1/4" across at its widest point and its handle is 7-3/4" long. Cocktail glasses stand 2-5/8" tall with diameters of 2-3/4" at their gold rims and 1-3/8" at their thick glass bases with concave bottoms. Large carrier stands a shade over 13" tall and measures 11-3/4" across at the outermost holder rings. Ashtray carrier stands 7-1/2" tall x 4" across at its widest point and holds two 3-1/2" diameter gold-rimmed ashtrays, the bottom one of which has lost a good portion of its rim gilding. My assumption is that the set originally came with six ashtrays. Other than the one ashtray’s gilding loss, this set is in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or gold loss. Brass shaker lid and stirrer spoon are still bright and shiny and the set appears never to have been used. The brass on the large carrier is likewise still bright and shiny, whereas the smaller carrier’s brass has developed a lovely patina. One might guess that this set’s original owner was a smoker but not a drinker! This outstanding bar set is one of the loveliest we’ve ever seen and we know it will make a prized addition to your bar. Set of 4 Wade Royal Victoria decanters
This is a set of four waaay vintage pottery keg-style decanters for Rum, Gin, Sherry, and Scotch. All have a rectangular design on the front with what is apparently the Gilbey logo, all have goldtone turn-screw spigots, also with the Gilbey logo, all have white plastic pull-off caps that also screw open to reveal the white piece underneath with attached cork, and all are marked “W & A Gilbey Limited, Wine Shippers & Distillers since 1857” on their backs and “Royal Victoria Pottery, Wade England” on their bottoms. The Rum decanter has orange and gold banding and a dark green rectangular design on a “craze” background. It was obviously designed to look that way because the decanter is not crazed and the design is under the glaze. Its cork top is intact and there’s a protective plastic cap over its spigot hole. The Gin decanter has blue and gold banding and a gray rectangular design on a white background. Its cap pulls off, but the cork has become disattached and is stuck in the opening. There’s a protective plastic cap over its spigot hole, and the spigot is dark with age and has some rub spots. The Sherry decanter has green and gold banding and a brown rectangular design on a pebbly background. Its cap does not pull off but screws open to reveal the underneath white piece with attached cork that is stuck in the opening. There’s a protective plastic cap over its spigot hole, and the spigot is dark with age and has some rub spots. The Scotch decanter has red and gold banding and a brown rectangular design on a mottled background. Its cap screws freely, but we have made no attempt to remove it since it is covered by the original paper seal that has the Gilbey logo on top and says “W & A Gilbey Ltd, London NW1” on one side and “Produce of Scotland” on the other. Since all the decanters are empty, but this one still retains its original seal, it’s a good indication of just how old these decanters must be for a full bottle of Scotch to evaporate over time! No cap on its spigot hole.
W.A. Gilbey Limited of England started as a partnership in 1857 and is still managed today by descendants of the original partners, brothers Walter and Alfred Gilbey. Henry and Charles Gold, also brothers, later joined the company, and both of them subsequently married Gilbey sisters. Still later, Henry and James Blyth, two sons of the oldest Gilbey sister Caroline, joined the company, followed in 1865 by the older Gilbey brother Henry and a cousin, Henry Grinling. Thus by 1866 the partnership consisted of eight men: three Gilbeys, two Golds, two Blyths and one Grinling. The business flourished, opened several additional distilleries in England, and ultimately expanded into Canada in 1933, opening W & A Gilbey (Canada) Limited.
George Wade (1864-1938) founded the Wade Pottery in Burslem, England, in the late 1800's. His son, George Albert Wade, joined the company in 1905, right after George, Sr. bought the Manchester pottery of his old rival, Henry Hallen. After the First World War, George Albert, now a major, became a full partner and the pottery’s name was changed to George Wade and Son, Ltd. The company expanded again in 1933 when George Albert Wade became chairman of the Wade Heath & Co Ltd. Royal Victoria Works and the A.J. Wade Ltd. Flaxman Pottery. In 1958, the entire group of Wade potteries were combined into one company, known for its industrial ceramics and giftware, including goblets, vases, tankards, jugs, pots, ashtrays, pictures, and wall plaques. George Albert Wade died in 1986 and today the company continues to be run by his son Tony.
Our decanters stand 6-1/4" tall and are 5" wide x 3-1/4" deep, measuring 4" front to back at the spigots. They have no nicks, chips, cracks, or crazing and make wonderful display pieces in their present vintage condition, but could be fully usable with replacement corks. Sunbeam Art Deco chrome & bakelite pitcher
What a gorgeous Art Deco pitcher! Its shiny chrome finished exterior is encircled by 4 inlaid bands of black bakelite and it also has a black bakelite handle and lid knob. Pitcher stands 7-1/2" tall at its graceful spout lip with diameters of 3-1/4" at its mouth and 3-3/8" at its base. It measures 6" across from its spout to its 4-3/4" long black bakelite handle that’s vertically ribbed for easy gripping and lifting – a very good idea since this heavy pitcher weighs 28-1/2 oz empty! Flip-open hinged lid is marked “Sunbeam” and the pitcher bottom says “Chicago Flexible Shaft Company, Chicago, U.S.A., Design Patent No. D-92668” with another 6 underneath. Chicago Flexible Shaft Company, founded in the early 1890s, became Sunbeam in 1946. The pitcher design was patented in 1934 by Michael W. McArdle. Perfect size for a bar pitcher, this Art Deco beauty is in great vintage condition with no dings or dents. A few little rough places on the spout and around the rim where the lid has come in constant contact with it. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Unique apple liqueur set
This unique vintage liqueur set looks like a big silvery apple that opens to reveal six shiny liqueur glasses inside. The apple stands 4-1/2" tall from the top of its stem to its 2-1/2" diameter base and measures 4" across at its widest point. The top half lifts off to expose six slender liqueur glasses resting in the six holes of a stationary crosspiece. Glasses are 2-1/8" tall with diameters of just over 1" at their rims and 3/4" at their bases. They have a definite Art Deco look about them, with three incised bands encircling their midsections. Apple bottom is marked “Charles Towne Pewter,” but the metal is aluminum, not pewter. There’s also a G/S hallmark that apparently stands for Carl Gould & Sons, Inc. I have been unable to discover any information about either Mr. Gould or Charles Towne Pewter, so if anyone has any information, please email me. I would judge that this set was probably made in the 1930's or 1940's and it is in excellent vintage condition. The glasses are pristine with no staining whatsoever, and I doubt they’ve ever been used. Apple exterior has a small dent on one side and the light surface scratching always associated with these vintage aluminum pieces. A beautiful and unique liqueur set that is as decorative as it is practical. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
