This Cowboy paint by number set in its original unopened box is one of the Barnes and Noble “You’re The Artist” series of six produced in 2004. 13" x 11" canvas is composed of a cowboy on a bucking bronco out in the Arizona desert surrounded by saguaro cactus and other desert plants. Set includes the canvass marked with the paint number for each segment, 13 acrylic paints sealed in little numbered paint pots, 2 brushes, a picture frame, and the book “Paint by Numbers – The Many Colors of a Cultural Phenomenon” by Larry Rubin. Box bottom shows photos of all six canvases in the series, plus the book cover, and has a transparent plastic window for viewing the paint pots and brushes. Top of the bright red box depicts the partially completed colorful cowboy painting. Box is unopened and in near perfect condition with one ripple at the top left corner of the box bottom. Copper huaso hat
This decorative vintage copper huaso hat from Chili is 8-3/4" in diameter with a 1" tall x 3" diameter crown. And before you start sending me emails saying that this is a gaucho hat, I’ll admit you may be right, but there seems to be a dispute as to whether Chilean cowboys are actually gauchos. Argentinian cowboys are gauchos, Brazilian cowboys are often called gauchos, but a lot of people insist that Chilean cowboys are huasos. A lot of other people keep talking about Chilean gauchos. Okay, whatever. I don’t want to get into the middle of a cultural argument, so you’re welcome to call this hat by whichever name you choose! Although unmarked as to maker, it’s definitely from Chile because the emblem on its crown is the Chilean coat of arms, consisting of a condor, the strongest bird of the Chilean skies, and a huemul, the most distinctive animal of Chile, flanking a shield containing a single 5-pointed star. The naval crowns on their heads symbolize Chile’s maritime renown. A crest consisting of three feathers sits atop the shield. These feathers were historically what the Presidents of the Republic placed in their hats to distinguish themselves. The official coat of arms has a motto below: “Por la razón o por la fuerza”, Spanish for “By reason or by force.” This one simply says “Recuerdo de Chile” (“I remember Chile”). The crown is surrounded by a braided copper band. The brim features a guitar, a horse head, a lariat, a horseshoe, two stirrups, and several sheafs of wheat. On the back is a hanging loop. Excellent vintage condition with one small dent at the edge of the crown and another on the brim. Makes a striking wall hanging, not to mention a great conversation piece, especially if the conversation turns to gaucho vs. huaso! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
