Cornflower-Blue 1-3/4 qt casserole

This is one of the classic Cornflower-Blue 1-3/4 quart Corning Ware casserole dishes produced by Corning Glass from 1958-1969. Standing 3-1/2" tall, it measures 8-7/8" across at its two lug handles, and its rim is a 7-1/8" square with gently rounded corners. Sports the three blue cornflowers and foliage both front and back. Bottom carries the Corning Ware logo and is stamped “Corning Ware, 1 3/4 Qt., P-1 3/4-B, Made in U.S.A.” Exterior bottom shows slight usage scuffing, as does one of the handle tips, undoubtedly from a detachable handle (see below) being taken on and off for years, but this casserole is in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks. See the Corning Ware story below. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Pure white 1.5 ltr casserole

This is a pure white 1.5 liter (1.5 liters = 1.585 quarts) Corning Ware casserole that is slightly different in shape from the classic Cornflower-Blue ones. It stands 2-7/8" tall, measures 8-3/4" across at its two lug handles, and its rim is just shy of 7" square with rounded corners. Both the rim corners and base corners are more square than on Cornflower-Blue casseroles, and the handles are a little larger. Bottom is unmarked, but both handles are marked on their undersides, one saying “Corning Ware” and the other saying “A-1.5L, U.S.A.” Very slight usage scuffing on the exterior bottom, but in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks. Spice of Life 1.4 ltr lidded casserole

This is a 1.4 liter lidded casserole in Corning Ware’s discontinued Spice of Life/French Spice pattern. It measures 8-1/2" x 10-1/4" across at the handles x 2" tall, rising to 4" tall when lidded. Casserole front and back have an attractive and colorful vegetable pattern in shades of red, yellow, brown, and green, underneath which is “L’Echalote,” which I think is French for “spice.” The casserole is marked “CorningWare” on the underside of one of its handles and “A-8-B 1.4 Liter” on the underside of the other. Lid is marked “Pyrex ® A-9-0" on one edge and “37" on the opposite edge. Both pieces are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks. The exterior bottom of the casserole shows some scuff marks. See the Corning Ware story below. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Clear glass lid - 7-1/4"

If I remember correctly, this was the original clear glass lid design produced by Corning Ware to top its Cornflower-Blue casserole dishes produced from 1958-1969. Its rim is a 7-1/4" square with gently rounded corners and it stands 1-3/4" tall to the top of its 1-1/4" diameter slightly concave glass knob. It features a 1/2" lip and two concentric circles around the knob. One chip on the underside rim, but in otherwise perfect condition with no nicks or cracks. Fits all the Corning Ware casseroles listed above, both Cornflower-Blue and pure white. See the Corning Ware story below. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Price: $10.00 + s/h

Clear glass lid - 7"

I think this is a later version of the clear glass Corning Ware lid design. Its rim is a 7" square with rounded corners and it stands 2" tall to the top of its 1-7/8" diameter glass knob that is more deeply concave than the lid listed above. It also has a much narrower lip than that one, and only one circle around its knob. Perfect condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks. Fits all the Corning Ware casseroles listed above, both Cornflower-Blue and pure white. See the Corning Ware story below. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Price: $10.00 + s/h

Clear glass lid - 8"

This is one of Corning Ware’s larger lids. Its rim is an 8-3/4" square with gently rounded corners and it stands 2" tall to the top of its 1-1/4" diameter slightly concave glass knob. It has a 3/8" lip and would fit an 8" square dish. One side of the rim is marked “8,” and the other side is marked “P-9-C-1.” Excellent condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks, but slight roughness at several places around the bottom edge. See the Corning Ware story below. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Large Corning Ware lid

This is a large heavy 10-3/8" x 10-3/8" square glass lid with gently rounded corners that fits the 9-1/4" square Corning Ware baking dishes. Stands 3-1/4" tall to the top of its 2" diameter concave knob. Three of the lip edges are marked, one saying “Pyrex,” one carrying the number “27-B”, and a third carrying the number “A 12 C.” We have two of these lids and both are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks. See the Corning Ware story below. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Metal casserole caddy

This is one of the classic 6-7/8" x 10" metal caddies specifically designed by Corning Ware to hold their original Cornflower-Blue casserole dishes produced from 1958-1969. Bottom of one crosspiece carries the Corning Ware logo and is marked “Corning Ware” and bottom of the other crosspiece is marked “P-11-M.” With one of these, the dish could (and did) go straight from the stove or oven onto the table for serving. We always had at least two on our family holiday table for years and years, no matter whose house we gathered at -- one to hold my green bean casserole with crumbled potato chip topping and the other to hold Mom’s famous baked corn. A whole generation of kids grew up convinced that turkey vs. ham is a choice, but you can’t have ANY holiday dinner without green bean casserole and baked corn, both served up in style in Corning Ware Cornflower-Blue casserole dishes cradled in their respective caddies! We have two of these nifty caddies (not MY two, I assure you!) and price is for each. Both are in perfect condition with no dings. They fit all the Cornflower-Blue casseroles listed above, but not the pure white casseroles.  See the Corning Ware story below. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Detachable handle

This is one of the classic 2-1/2" x 7-1/4" detachable handles produced by Corning Ware to fit over the lug handles of its original Cornflower-Blue casserole dishes produced from 1959-1969. For those of you not old enough to remember how these work, let me enlighten you. Rotate the black plastic handle tip a quarter turn to the left. Slide the metal portion over one of the casserole’s lug handles. Rotate the black plastic piece back to the upright position to lock the handle in place, and voila! Now your casserole is a saucepan! Yes, we could actually use the original Corning Ware pieces on the stovetop as well as in the oven! (That was well before most people had microwave ovens, of course, so that option didn’t occur to us until years later.) Marked “Corning Ware” on the bottom of the metal portion, as well as “Pat. No. 2,851,299.” This handle is in perfect condition, work perfectly, and fits all of the Cornflower-Blue casseroles listed above, but not the Spice of Life or pure white casseroles. Sure wish I had a dime for every time I’ve used one of these over the past 45+ years. Talk about a retirement nestegg!! See the Corning Ware story below. (Click on picture for more images.) The Corning Ware Story

Corning Glass introduced the first glass ovenware, made of a new, clear, heat- resistant material, Pyrex, in 1915. In 1953, Pyroceram, a white ceramic-like material capable of withstanding enormous variations in temperature, was invented and developed by Dr. S. Donald Stookey of Corning’s research and development division. Corningware, an oven-to-table service made of Pyroceram, was introduced in 1958. It featured the first little blue Cornflower decoration, designed by Corning staff, which became the trademark of Corning consumer products for three decades. The original Cornflower-Blue Corningware pattern, however, was only produced from 1958 through 1969.

According to Opentopia, the online encyclopedia, the Corningware brand name is now owned by World Kitchens Incorporated of Reston, Virginia, but the original pyroceramic glass version of Corningware is no longer sold in the US market. World Kitchens sells similar looking products under the Corningware brand name that appear to be ordinary white glazed stoneware. The packaging for these newer Corningware branded cookware products say specifically that they are not for stovetop use.
