Set of 4 copper mugs
This is a set of four gorgeous copper mugs with brass trim and handles. Handcrafted in elegant simplicity by an unknown Mexican artisan, these unique heavy mugs weigh 11 oz apiece and are just shy of 4" tall with diameters of 3-1/8" at the mouth and 2-3/4" at the bottom. They measure 4" across at the handles. Bottoms are marked “Cobre” (Spanish for “copper”) and “Made in Mexico.” We’ve never seen any Mexican copper mugs even remotely resembling these, and therefore believe that, as is often the case with Mexican arts and crafts, this set may well be one of a kind. Very good vintage condition with no dents or dings and only the minor spotting and pinpricks typical of older copper pieces. Truly a beautiful and striking set of artistic mugs! Huge copper leaf dish
This huge vintage copper leaf dish measures 12" across and 18" from leaf tip to stem. Standing on three ball feet, the side edges sweep 2-1/4" upward, rising to 3-1/4" at the stem and 3-1/2" at the leaf tip. Beautiful workmanship, extensive lifelike incised leaf veining, and an almost serrated edge make for an absolutely stunning sculptural piece. Amazingly enough, the bottom is unmarked, but retains some glue residue from what must have been its original sticker. The copper has developed a gorgeous patina over the decades that we have made no attempt to clean or polish. Superb vintage condition with no dents, dings, or corrosion. Quite a few small spots intermixed with the veining give an even more realistic appearance to this outstanding piece of art. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Copper coffee set
This beautiful old copper coffee set includes a coffee pot, lidded sugar, lidded creamer, and large serving tray. All handles and finials are made of brass, and the pot, sugar, and creamer have silvered interior linings. All four pieces are marked “Hecho en Mexico” on their bottoms, with “DF” underneath. The coffee pot measures 8-3/4" tall with diameters of 3" at its mouth and 4-1/2" at its base. It is 8-1/4" across from its simple long spout to its dark wood handle. Hinged lid flips back for filling. The 5-1/4" tall lidded sugar has diameters of nearly 2-1/2" at its mouth and 3-1/4" at its base, and measures 5-1/4" across from handle to handle. The 5-1/2" tall creamer also has diameters of 2-1/2" at the mouth and 3-1/4" at the base and measures 5-1/4" across from spout to handle. The creamer and sugar lids are identical and may be used interchangeably. The ovular tray is 16-1/2" long x 11-3/8" wide and measures 19-1/4" from handle to handle. Indented center well prevents the serving pieces from accidently slipping off the tray. This is a very substantial coffee set, weighing nearly 6 pounds. All pieces are in very good vintage condition with a few shallow dents and spots here and there that add character and authenticity while in no way affecting beauty or functionality. Ol’ Swaphos has given all pieces a good initial cleaning and polishing more than sufficient for display purposes, but you will undoubtedly want to do further cleaning, particularly of the interiors, should you wish to actually use this marvelous old copper set for serving coffee. Copper huaso hat
This decorative vintage copper huaso hat from Chili is 8-3/4" in diameter with a 1" tall x 3" diameter crown. And before you start sending me emails saying that this is a gaucho hat, I’ll admit you may be right, but there seems to be a dispute as to whether Chilean cowboys are actually gauchos. Argentinian cowboys are gauchos, Brazilian cowboys are often called gauchos, but a lot of people insist that Chilean cowboys are huasos. A lot of other people keep talking about Chilean gauchos. Okay, whatever. I don’t want to get into the middle of a cultural argument, so you’re welcome to call this hat by whichever name you choose! Although unmarked as to maker, it’s definitely from Chile because the emblem on its crown is the Chilean coat of arms, consisting of a condor, the strongest bird of the Chilean skies, and a huemul, the most distinctive animal of Chile, flanking a shield containing a single 5-pointed star. The naval crowns on their heads symbolize Chile’s maritime renown. A crest consisting of three feathers sits atop the shield. These feathers were historically what the Presidents of the Republic placed in their hats to distinguish themselves. The official coat of arms has a motto below: “Por la razón o por la fuerza”, Spanish for “By reason or by force.” This one simply says “Recuerdo de Chile” (“I remember Chile”). The crown is surrounded by a braided copper band. The brim features a guitar, a horse head, a lariat, a horseshoe, two stirrups, and several sheafs of wheat. On the back is a hanging loop. Excellent vintage condition with one small dent at the edge of the crown and another on the brim. Makes a striking wall hanging, not to mention a great conversation piece, especially if the conversation turns to gaucho vs. huaso! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
