This is one of the famous Delft-Blauw blue and white scenic plates from Holland. The front shows an attractive and highly detailed country scene including two windmills, several cottages and outbuildings, two Shetland ponies, and a garden at the edge of a stream crossed by a wooden bridge with a gate at its end. Plate is just shy of 9-1/2" in diameter and is 1-1/8" deep. Back has an attached hanger and a mark consisting of a large blue circle surrounded by blue script reading “Delft-Blauw Handdecorated - Made in Holland”. Holy Land Nazareth souvenir plate

Here’s something quite unique and very difficult to find unless you were fortunate enough to travel to the Holy Land in the millennium year of 2000. This 8-5/8" diameter hand-painted souvenir plate depicts the village of Nazareth in bright shades of yellow, gold, dark red, blue, brown, and green, all features outlined in black. The entire scene is surrounded by a 1/2" border of deep cobalt blue. Black text above and below the village scene read “Holy Land 2000" and “Nazareth”. The back is marked “Holy Land Christmas Ltd” and the thick bottom base ring is pierced so as to easily insert a hanger for displaying the plate on a wall. Absolutely pristine condition: no nicks, chips, cracks, or discoloration. Sure to become a family heirloom -- wouldn’t this make the perfect gift for a child or grandchild born in 2000? Warwick monk plate

This is one of the famous antique Warwick monk plates (also called friar plates, cleric plates, or cardinal plates). Quoting from the Kovels: “Warwick china was made in Wheeling, WV, in a pottery working from 1887 to 1951. Many pieces were made with hand painted or decal decorations. The most familiar Warwick has a shaded brown background. The name Warwick is part of the mark and sometimes the mysterious word IOGA is also included.” An article by Vanessa Orr in the February 2003 Antique Trader throws additional light on the IOGA: “Some of the earliest pieces of Warwick China, created between 1900 and 1914, are stamped with the initials ‘IOGA’. They are highly prized among collectors.” The bottom of our plate has both the Warwick mark and the IOGA, but unlike the more familiar shaded brown background, this plate’s background is the more unusual deep green at the rim softly shading to a light beige in the center above the monk. 10-1/4" in diameter and just shy of 1" deep, with a 6-1/2" base ring underneath. Excellent condition, with no chips, nicks, or cracks, and only the slightest crazing and a couple of glaze pops. (Click on picture for more images.) Be sure to see our antique Warwick monk pitchers, too! Tell a friend.

1974 Kentucky Derby Norman Rockwell plate

“The Weigh-In” is a collector plate by Norman Rockwell in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary 1974 Kentucky Derby. It depicts Hall of Fame jockey Eddie Arcaro, five-time Kentucky Derby winner, dressed in full race regalia and holding his saddle, being weighed in prior to the race by a very intent Derby official. Eddie Arcaro (1916-1997) won more American Classic Races than any other jockey in history and is the only jockey to have won the Triple Crown twice – 1941 on Whirlaway and 1948 on Citation. His first Kentucky Derby win was in 1938 on Lawrin, and he went on to win four more Derbys – 1941 on Whirlaway, 1945 on Hoop, Jr., 1948 on Citation, and 1952 on Hill Gail. Norman Rockwell (1894-1978), America’s most beloved and most widely-recognized illustrator, was a prolific artist famous for his depictions of American life, culture, and values, many prints appearing as covers for “The Saturday Evening Post.” “The Weigh-In” was featured on the Post cover on September 6, 1958. This beautiful full-color collector plate is 8-1/2" in diameter and rimmed in gold. The back has extensive gold text about both Norman Rockwell and Eddie Arcaro, and is also marked as Gorham Fine China. Perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, or gold loss. Scarlet in Crinoline collector plate

“Scarlet in Crinoline – The Inaccessible Woman 1865” was the first in a series of 12 limited edition “Women of the Century” collector plates by noted French artist Francois Ganeau commemorating the 100 years of Parish fashion from 1865-1965 and issued in conjunction with the United Nations International Women’s Year in 1975. Ganeau’s description of Scarlet reads, “Inaccessible in the skirt of crinoline whose vastness separates her from the real world, such as Scarlett O’Hara in the style of Worth, here is in 1865 the ideal image of woman.” This 8-1/2" diameter plate comes in its original packaging, complete with its original information sheet and “Certificat d’Authenticite” showing that this plate was originally issued to Ms. Elizabeth Micillo under subscription number 716, with the plate number being ET523, which number also appears on the back of the plate. Evidently The Bradford Exchange distributed these plates in the U.S., because also included is the bottom portion of the original order form showing that the original purchaser, presumably Ms. Micillo, ordered this plate on February 25, 1977 for $17.67 and apparently received it on March 1 of that year. This plate is in pristine condition and although there’s a hanging loop attached to the back, it shows no signs of ever having been used. I’d be willing to hazard a guess that this plate never came out of its original packaging! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Sarah in Bustle collector plate

“Sarah in Bustle – The Woman of Temptation 1875” was the second in a series of 12 limited edition “Women of the Century” collector plates by noted French artist Francois Ganeau commemorating the 100 years of Parish fashion from 1865-1965 and issued in conjunction with the United Nations International Women’s Year in 1975. Ganeau’s description of Sarah reads, “Provocative in her decolletee dress of which the bustle accentuates the manner of her movements, Sarah abandons her aloofness, the first necessary step toward the affirmation of woman.” This 8-1/2" diameter plate comes in its original packaging, complete with its original information sheet and “Certificat d’Authenticite” showing that this plate was originally issued to Ms. Elizabeth Micillo under subscription number 716, with the plate number being DC053, which number also appears on the back of the plate. No order sheet this time, but this plate, too, is in pristine condition and appears never to have come out of its original packaging. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Pair of Maker’s Mark limited edition collector plates

It doesn’t get any better than this! Here’s a pair of beautiful limited edition Maker’s Mark collector plates made by Louisville Stoneware. What a great partnership between two of Louisville’s most prestigious companies! These large (11-1/8" diameter) heavy (42.4 oz each!!) handpainted stoneware plates depict two of the historic buildings located at the Maker’s Mark village in Loretto, KY: The Distillery and The Toll House. The Distillery plate, No. 522 in a limited edition of 1000, features a highly detailed drawing of the Distillery, a National Historic Landmark and the oldest operating distillery in America. The Toll House plate, No. 456 in a limited edition of 1000, features an equally highly detailed drawing of the restored 19th century Toll House that dates back to the 1880s when tolls were levied for using the country roads that wind through the distillery property. Both plates say “Maker’s Mark” on the bottom rim and carry the SIV logo on both the left and right rim. The back of each plate gives information about the building depicted on the front, shows the plate’s number, and also says “Handmade by Louisville Stoneware.” Plate backs also have hanging holes should you desire to display them on a wall. Whether you’re a Maker’s Mark collector, a Louisville Stoneware collector, or a plate collector, you’re sure to appreciate these beautiful limited edition plates. Both are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, crazing, or discoloration. (Click on pictures for more images.) Tell a friend.
