Easterling Majestic service for 8

This is a complete service for 8 in the beautiful Majestic pattern produced by Easterling Bavarian China ca. 1960. Set includes eight 5-piece place settings plus coffee pot, creamer, sugar, serving bowl, and salt & pepper shakers. Elegantly understated and superbly tasteful, the dinner plates, salad plates, and saucers are pure white with wide gray borders flanked by platinum bands. The soup bowls, coffee cups, and all serving pieces have pure white interiors and gray exteriors flanked by platinum bands. And yes, this special service for eight has soup bowls rather than bread plates!

Each 5-piece place setting consists of:

  • 10-3/4" diameter dinner plate
  • 8-1/2" diameter salad plate
  • 1-7/8" tall footed soup bowl with diameters of 5-3/8" at its rim and 2-3/4" at its base
  • 6-1/4" diameter saucer
  • 2-1/8" tall footed coffee cup with diameters of 4-1/8" at its rim and 2" at its base.

Bottoms of all pieces are marked with the Easterling gold butterfly logo surrounded by gold lettering reading “Made expressly for Easterling in Bavaria Germany” with the pattern name below. Pieces also retain their original circular stickers that say Kontrollstelie with the piece number below.

The 8-piece serving set consists of:

  • 7-3/4" tall lidded coffee pot that measures 8-1/2" across from spout to handle and has diameters of 3-1/8" at the mouth, approximately 5-1/4" at its widest point, and 3-1/4" at the base
  • 3-3/4" tall lidded sugar bowl that measures 6" across at the handles and has diameters of 3-1/2" at the mouth, approximately 4" at the widest point, and 2-3/8" at the base
  • 3" tall cream pitcher that measures 5-5/8" across from spout to handle and has diameters of 3-1/4" at the mouth, approximately 4" at the widest point, and 2-3/8" at the base
  • 2-1/2" tall serving bowl with diameters of 7" at the rim and 3-1/4" at the base
  • pair of 2" tall salt and pepper shakers.

Bottoms of all pieces except the shakers are marked with the Easterling gold butterfly logo surrounded by gold lettering reading “Made expressly for Easterling in Bavaria Germany.” The shakers are marked “Germany.”

Never used, this outstanding set of heirloom quality china is in pristine like-new condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, crazing, or loss of platinum. Truly a set to be treasured for a lifetime and passed down through the generations. We couldn’t resist showing you how great it looks with our Raphael silverware and Jeannette glasses. Haviland & Co. Limoges serving platter

This stunning huge, heavy Limoges serving platter measures 18-1/2" x 12-1/2" x 2" deep and has an exceptionally pleasing all-over pattern of flowers, leaves, and stems, all done in shades of brown, gray, and grayish-blue. While basically rectangular in shape, all four sides are slightly concave and all four corners are curved and incised at the middle of the curve. There is a 1/4" “lip” around the entire piece. One mark on the back, in green, is the Haviland “doughnut” with curved lettering: Haviland & Co. in the top half and Limoges in the bottom half. Underneath this, in a deep green/black, is the underlined H&Co, with the”o” elevated and a dot underneath it, and an L underneath the line. These marks indicate that this platter dates from 1875-1882. There is also a very faint 18F indentation in the corner to the right of the two green marks. I have crawled all over the web looking for this pattern, without success. Not even Schleiger has it listed! The closest I’ve come is a smaller (12-1/2" x 8-1/4" x 2" deep) platter in the similar Old Blackberry Sch. #1154 pattern, with the exact same two backmarks. That piece is dated to 1870-80. Our platter is in extraordinarily good condition: no chips, cracks, crazing, or discoloration on the front. There are a couple of tiny stray paint flecks underneath the glaze and a tiny brown indentation, also under the glaze, at the base of the incision point on one of the corners. On the back, both the inner and outer base show minor wear and discoloration, and there’s another of those tiny brown indentations in the corner to the left of the two green marks. Theodore Haviland Limoges meat platter

This beautiful large, heavy Theodore Haviland Limoges oval meat platter measures 15-1/2" x 12-1/2" and has a gravy dip at one end. The pattern, identified as Schleiger 169A, is quite subtle as compared to most Haviland patterns: pure white with an elegant green and maroon border, more geometric than floral, and gold banding. The red Theodore Haviland mark on the back (with the Theodore underlined) and also stating “Limoges, France” dates this piece to 1903-1920. It is in astounding condition: no chips, cracks, crazing, or discoloration, and it’s doubtful this platter was ever used for anything other than display. Even the gold banding is pristine! There is one tiny brown, slightly raised, blemish speck about 3" to the upper left of the gravy dip that you can feel with your finger tip and which apparently happened at the factory since it is under the glaze. There is also a tiny 1/4" hairline scratch about 4" to the bottom left of the gravy dip that you can’t see without a lot of wiggling to get the lighting just right, but can feel with your finger tip. Johnson Bros. Geneva octagonal platter

This beautiful large (11" x 14") octagonal platter is in the very hard-to-find Geneva pattern. Less “busy” than most of the other Johnson Bros. blue-and-white patterns, Geneva has a border of spoked hexagons on the four concave sides and fruit in the four concave corners. Both the inside and outside of this border are banded in mustard yellow. In the center of the platter is a wetlands scene featuring two stylized cranes, the left one in flight and the right one standing. The back is marked with a blue crown, with “Geneva” above and “Johnson Bros. England” below. According to Kovels, this mark was used in the early 1900's. There is also a blue “6", another little blue mark, and two small mustard yellow lines. This platter is in excellent condition: no chips, cracks, crazing, discoloration, or signs of wear. There is one tiny stray paint fleck under the glaze about 3/4" from the bottom border and one pinpick manufacturer’s blemish, also under the glaze, about 5/8" from the lower right corner. Even the back shows no sign of wear, although there are three more pinprick manufacturer’s blemishes. Be sure to see our matching octagonal covered vegetable bowl and gravy boat with attached underplate, either of which looks stunning when displayed on this platter. What incredible additions to your Johnson Bros. collection! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Johnson Bros. Geneva octagonal lidded vegetable

This lovely octagonal vegetable bowl with handles and a lid is in the very hard-to-find Geneva pattern. Less “busy” than most of the other Johnson Bros. blue-and-white patterns, both the bowl and lid have a border of alternating spoked hexagons and fruit. On the lid, this border is banded on both sides in mustard yellow; on the bowl, the mustard yellow bands are on the top of the handles, the bottom of the spoked hexagon portions of the border, and the bottom of the white bowl itself. The lid has additional vertical mustard yellow bands on the finial top, which is surrounded by a wetlands scene featuring two stylized cranes, the left one in flight and the right one standing. The bowl has a round bottom 4-1/4" in diameter which grows into an octagon that is 8-1/2" in diameter at its widest point. The measurement from handle to handle is 10". The bowl is 2-3/4" tall, and when lidded, 5-1/2" tall to the top of the acorn finial. The bowl bottom is marked with a blue crown, with “Geneva” above and “Johnson Bros. England” below. According to Kovels, this mark was used in the early 1900's. There is another blue mark, as well as a mustard yellow one that looks like an “H” lying on its side. Both the bowl and the lid are in excellent condition: no chips, cracks, crazing, discoloration, or signs of wear. The bowl has a pinprick manufacturer’s blemish on the under side of one handle, and two similar blemishes on the under side of the other handle. The lid has three similar blemishes on the underside of its rim. This is a gorgeous piece by itself, and looks positively stunning when displayed as a set on our matching large platter listed immediately above. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.

Johnson Bros. Geneva gravy boat w/ attached octagonal underplate

This handsome double-lipped gravy boat with attached octagonal underplate is in the very hard-to-find Geneva pattern. Less “busy” than most of the other Johnson Bros blue-and-white patterns, the 6" x 9" underplate has a border of alternating spoked hexagons and fruit, with a mustard yellow band on both the inside and outside of the border. There is a matching border around the middle of the gravy boat, with the mustard yellow banding only at the bottom of the spoked hexagon portions. The top edge of the gravy boat, which is 3-5/8" x 7-3/4", has a mustard yellow band, beneath which is a single row of the spoked hexagons. There’s no wetlands scene with two stylized cranes as appears on the matching platter and lidded vegetable bowl listed immediately above. This piece is 2-3/4" high at the center, rising to 3-1/2" at each lip. The bottom of the underplate is marked with a blue crown, with “Geneva” above and “Johnson Bros. England” below. According to Kovels, this mark was used in the early 1900's. This piece is in very good condition, with no cracks, crazing, or discoloration. However, it is not perfect. There is a piprick manufacturer’s blemish on the inside bottom of the bowl, two small chips on the underside of one of the lips, and one even smaller chip on the underside of one of the plate edges. Our price reflects the chips; if perfect, this piece would sell for considerably more. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
