Blakely cactus glasses and accessories have become a collecting phenomenon in recent years! Blakely Oil was an Arizona private brand gas station chain from the late 1940's through the 1950's, being bought out by Gulf Oil sometime during the early 1960's. According to one of their 1958 ads, Blakely had 63 “convenient locations,” most of them in Arizona, but some people claim there were a few in Southern California as well. Blakely had a give-away program offering a “free Arizona cactus tumbler” to anyone purchasing 10 gallons of gas. The glasses came in 8 different cactus designs: Barrel, Century Plant, Cholla, Ocotillo, Organ Pipe, Prickly Pear, Saguaro, and Yucca. By 1959, another Blakely ad boasted that “All over the world, 8 million cactus tumblers are boosting Arizona!” Blakely also offered Arizona Cactus Dinnerware and wooden trays and holders for their glasses.
Santa Fe Trading Post is pleased to be able to offer all eight Blakely cactus glasses for sale. If a glass has more than one color variation, each variation is listed separately. All glasses are frosted and stand 6-1/2" tall with diameters of 2-3/4" at their rims and 2-1/4" at their clear glass bases. All are in great vintage condition with no nicks, chips, or cracks and require hand washing to preserve the paint and the finish.
