TWA 3-piece place setting
Gone are the days when airlines served full inflight meals on fine china accompanied by scaled-down silver plated utensils such as these. And in this case, the airline itself (Trans World Airlines) is also gone forever. But we’ve got this complete 3-piece set of their silverware for sale! So up, up, and away in a flight of fancy with these pieces of American aviation history: a 6-1/2" knife, a 6" fork, and a 5-1/4" spoon, all proudly proclaiming “TWA” on the fronts of their handles, not the backs. Backs of the fork and spoon handles are stamped “International Silver Co.” Other than a little tarnish, all three pieces are in very good condition, with only minor usage scratching appropriate to their age. Southern Comfort cocktail shaker
What a find! A marvelous old stainless steel cocktail shaker in the shape of a whisky bottle, complete with large etched Southern Comfort “label”, in the center of which is a beaded oval containing a highly detailed depiction of a plantation mansion and grounds, with a horse-drawn carriage coming up the drive and a Mississippi steamboat out on the river. Above are the words “Southern Comfort, Reg. U.S. Pat. Off., Cocktail Shaker”, and below the proclamation “The stainless steel cocktail shaker that pours like a bottle.” Below that are the words “Southern Comfort Corporation, St. Louis, Missouri U.S.A.” Standing 11-1/2" high with a diameter of 3-1/2", this large shaker is composed of four parts: the 6" tall base, the 4-3/4" tall pour spout that fits into the base, the 1-1/2" tall cap that fits into the spout, and the 3-1/2" diameter strainer that fits into the spout base via three metal clamps. Base bottom is marked “Craft Stainless Steel, Chicago”. All pieces are in excellent condition with no dents or dings, but some usage scratching and scuffage, particularly where the pieces fit together. We are also including a large stainless steel tumbler that does not match, but into which the Southern Comfort pour spout fits perfectly. This tumbler measures 7" tall with diameters of 3-5/8" at the top and 2-1/4" at the bottom, which is stamped “18-8 Stainless Steel” and “Made in U.S.A.” It, too, has some usage scuffage, but no dents or dings. Ol’ Swaphos remembers these pieces living together on his parents’ bar back in the early '50's, so we certainly can’t break them up now! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
